Kahkua xx Daddy Watch (Nureyev-Northern Dancer)-Cabrini Green (Round Table, Tudor Minstrel)-Canadian Bound (Secretariat)
Kahkua is a JC papered mare registered in the Main Mare Book of the German Oldenburg Verband (GOV) and the Weser-Ems Pony book. At her inspection in 2009 she was noted by the inspectors as displaying conformation consistent more with warmblood exterior than that of a Thoroughbred. She scored very well with head=8, neck=8, saddle position=7.5, frame=7.5, frame=7.5, forelimb=7, hindlimb=6, breed/ type=7.5, quality of conformation=6.5, correctness of gaits=7. Due to some injuries she sustained as a young horse she has a functional lameness and along with a straighter hindlimb conformation scored impulsion=5.5, walk=5.5.
Her TB pedigree is quite impressive with her sire being Daddy Watch who is by the famous thoroughbred stallion Nureyev. Nureyev was one of the most succesful sons of Northern Dancer having been purchased in 1978 for 1.3 million dollars. He raced exclusively in Europe and then stood at stud in Europe and Kentucky. Nureyev produced more than 130 Stakes winners in his lifetime. Northern Dancer, Nureyev's sire, needs no introduction. In two years of racing he won 14 of 18 starts including winning the 1964 Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Florida Derby. As a sire he is one of the most influential stallions of the 20th Century.
Kahkua's dam line is even more impressive with her famous great grandsire Secretariat, winner of the 1973 Triple Crown. Her dam-sire is Tudor Mistrel, sire of the 1959 Kentucky Derby winner Tomy Lee and great gransire of the famous Hanoverian Celle stallion Laurie's Crusader. Lastly, Kahkua's other great grandsire through her damline is Round Table, the best turf race horse in American History. Even with a short strided gait (caused by an injury sustained when her rear limb was caught in fencing as a youngster) Kahkua had been ridden as a hunter equitation horse until she fractured P3 in 2007. Due to these injuries she was retired from competition. She is a very sweet natured mare with great ground manners and loves her new relaxed lifestyle. We hope in 2010 to breed her to a Weser-Em pony stallion...yet to be choosen!
